I ctually have no idea, but, if I am in fact right this map would be, bloody immense, according to wikipedia, the island is ~ 108,860 km2. Also, if I'm not mistaken and Chernarus is actually 225 km2, the island would be positively massive compared to Chernarus. There'd probably be less in the way of military spawns, but that could be easily righted by a small backstory. The ATV would be a pretty useful vehicle on this map due to the sparse collection of roads connecting Cities and towns. Having lived there, my entire life I can say with no sense of doubt that this province would be an awesome place to explore in DayZ, it'd have a similar feel to Lingor (Sparse collection of towns, Island, lots of forested areas). The first one that came to mind was Newfoundland Canada. But, it got me thinking about other places that could be good DayZ maps. In Manhattan I would imagine you'd have a lot of useful accessible space in the form of buildings with loot that would keep people scattered. In Chernarus you have a few key areas that people congregate at and otherwise a lot of worthless open space. In the end I expect such an environment to actually yield fewer player interactions than the open world of Chernarus. With that in mind it'll probably be best to have a variety of building models with collapsed staircases and fire-escapes to make things easier. A city block with 40 stories is massive if each floor is accessible. While the map size would be small, the amount of space could be several times larger than Chernarus due to the multiplier aspect of multiple level buildings. Then create crowded but navigable lines of vehicles while leaving a larger portion of the streets free of roadblocks. Plot the city on a map and then trace routes that would exit via the various bridges and tunnels leaving the island. Zombie spawn areas would need a lot of thought and workįor the road issues you could selectively block various roads and intersections.Bridges and tunnels would need to be destroyed models.There are no airports on Manhattan island, only heliports.Having no power means you would have to run up 102 flights of stairs to get to the top of the Empire State building.The amount of buildings could cause PC's to have a really poor frame rate.Lots of cars would mean it would be almost impossible to drive a car on the road The city would look weird without a lot of cars on the road. ![]() Ghillie suits only good for central park.Military items could be found on warships docked in port (aka USS Intrepid).Fire escapes allow for quick escapes from buildings.Ground level, subway tunnels and roof tops. I need some help from the Reddit crowd to list the pro's and con's of playing on this style of map. UPDATE: Maybe it would be easier to just do a fictitious map with features from different cities around the world. ![]() My other idea is to do a map of Vancouver, Canada which has less building density, but also has similar pro's and con's The size of Manhattan is only 59 2 km, which is quite small compared to the Chernarus map (225 2 km), but I think it could have something for everyone. So I am thinking of starting the extremely large project of making a custom map for ArmaII based on Manhattan Island.
